Elliot Thorpe

Elliot Thorpe is a freelance writer, having previously worked for Starlog and with the sites Den of Geek, Shadowlocked and Doctor Who TV as well as for Encore, the magazine for the entertainment professional.

He enjoys a close working relationship with Chinbeard Books and Spiteful Puppet Entertainment, serving as occasional editor, typesetter and author for a number of their publications. In 2020, he wrote for their line of official Robin of Sherwood continuation novels.

In 2004, he scripted ‘Doctor Who – Cryptobiosis‘, starring Colin Baker and Nicola Bryant for Big Finish Productions and worked long-term with the West End stage production ‘The Definitive Rat Pack‘. His first novel ‘Cold Runs the Blood’ was released in 2013  and he contributed to the charity anthology ‘Seasons of War – Tales from a Time War’ in 2015. He has short stories published in the anthologies ‘The Wretched Man’ (2020), ‘Grave Matters’ (2014), ‘The Extraordinary Lives of People Who Never Existed’ (2015) and ‘The Librarian’ (2017).

In 2017, he succeeded his late father Bernard H Thorpe as the DMA president, completing ‘Just Dino – A Personal Recollection of Dean Martin’, a work Bernard started some years ago with Dino’s permission. A revised version, ‘Dean Martin – Recollections’, in hardback and expanded with new and archival interviews, was released in 2018. A follow-up title, ‘Dean Martin’s Movie Moments Scrapbook’ was released in 2020 to celebrate the DMA’s 60th Anniversary. He edited the follow-up title, Dean Martin – A Discography, released in 2021. Elliot is currently working on a new, original novel, scheduled for publication in 2022.

Elliot has a regular column in the San Francisco-based quarterly magazine ‘Search’, issues of which are downloadable here. He also serves as a producer for an established US production company creating original audio dramas and podcasts.

He is proud to be our association president, saying: “It’s an honor to have taken the baton, to continue the work both my father and Dino started back in 1960. While the DMA is a little different now (we are non-profit with no subscription membership), we still continue to promote and showcase Dino’s life and career in the best and most-respectful way we can. Incredibly, we passed our 60th Anniversary in 2020 and the DMA’s seven-decade legacy puts us in a unique position as ambassadors to Dino’s own incredible legacy. Here’s to the next 60 years!”
