Dean’s first CD release in the UK; collaborative compilation between EMI, Alan Dell and Bernard; songs selected and sequenced by Bernard; re-titled The Essential Dean Martin in 2003 and omitting sleeve notes; sleeve notes by Bernard as follows:

“The Capitol Years from Dean Martin were among the most varied and formative – giving him valuable experience through the successful partnership he had with Jerry Lewis, whilst retaining that inimitable style he still has today.

When it was announced on Tuesday June 19th 1956 that the Martin and Lewis partnership was to dissolve, no one seemed to have any confidence in that easy-going singer born nearly forty years previously as Dino Paul Crocetti.

Time proved otherwise; Dean Martin showed himself to be an entertainer of the highest calibre and capable of such varied talent in all chapters of showbusiness.

Strangely enough, Dean has never to date been presented with an Oscars or awards (other than numerous gold albums) for his work, although he is held in high regard and respect by all who work for him and with him. I always have a great sense of pride in being president of the Dean Martin Association, Dino’s only official organisation in the world since 1960 and even more pleased with the release of this exciting new compilation of just some of his hits for the first time ever digitally re-mastered.

It is always very difficult in choosing the ‘best’ of Dean: Do you choose the best on sales or the best on song choice? Look at this selection on this album and you will note that we have songs that sold good and are good!! INNAMORATA has got to be one of my very own favourites: and the rest? Well, they are as well!

What gems are contained on this release – listen to these songs and you will realise why Dino Paul Crocetti remains one of the most consistent and popular personalities since the forties and remains so in the late eighties…….
